CHARLOTTE M. GRADIE SCHOLARSHIP FOR UNDERGRADUATE HISTORY MAJORS
Charlotte M. Gradie, Ph.D. is Professor Emerita of History at Sacred Heart University and historian of Latin America with interests in the early contact period. In recognition of Charlotte’s more than 30 years of service to the University, the Department of History would like to establish the Charlotte M. Gradie Scholarship for Undergraduate History Majors.
As a teacher, Professor Gradie has touched countless lives of students in a wide variety of programs and disciplines as well as history majors in the College of Arts and Sciences. She has taught specialized courses on medicine, disease, and history that have attracted students from the natural sciences, health professions, and nursing. She has supervised dozens of senior theses projects and led multiple service trips to Guatemala for our students.
Charlotte has maintained an active professional role in her field. She has led the coordination of the Connecticut History Day many times over the past two decades and has hosted a regional history competition on Sacred Heart University’s campus since 2016 which draws hundreds of middle and high school students to SHU. Dr. Gradie currently serves as the President of the New England Historical Association.
This scholarship would be awarded to a current undergraduate history major who demonstrates academic achievement while maintaining a GPA of 3.0 with demonstrated financial need.
With your help, the goal is to raise more than the $25,000 necessary to establish an endowed fund that will exist in perpetuity.
Should the philanthropic investments not reach $25,000, the funds raised will become immediately available for use by the university for the intended purposes previously outlined.
